How to file 90 days report (TM47) on long term Thai visas (DTV, pension, student, workpermit)?

The 90-Day Report is a mandatory notification that is required under the Immigration Act 1979 for every foreigner who is in Thailand on a long-term visa. Every 90 days you are required to report your current residential address to the immigration office. This is to enable the authorities to track the whereabouts of foreign nationals and is a separate procedure from visa renewal.

This report is not equivalent to a visa extension, but is merely a notification that you are still in the country on a long-term visa.

It looks like this:

Filing a report is free, however, there is a serious fine of 2000 Baht for violation. This amount can rise to 5,000 Baht in case of arrest with an additional 200 Baht fine for each day until the report is filed (Source: immigration.go.th). However, children under the age of 15 do not need to pay the fine.

It is not written on the official website. According to our and our friends’ practice, children are not really penalized: neither for overstay (violation of visa deadlines), nor for overdue submission of this report. However, if children have long-term visas, we recommend breaking this rule, because in any case the procedure is not complicated, free of charge + online submission is possible. If your kids don’t have visas and they have overstays, there is no point in filing this report for them.

Who must file

  • All foreigners with visas: Non-Immigrant (B, O, ED, O-A, O-X)
  • Holders of temporary residence permits
  • Those who stay in the country continuously for more than 90 days

Important! If you have left Thailand, the countdown starts again from the date of entry.

Submission deadlines

  • 15 days before the 90-day deadline;
  • within 7 days after the date of the report.

The report is due by March 16.
You can submit: from March 1 (15 days before) to March 23 (7 days after).
If you leave and return, the count starts over from the date of entry.

Serving options

  1. In person at the Immigration Office. E.g. Google Maps link in Pattaya, Government Complex in Bangkok or Phuket.
  2. Online Submission.
  3. Notification by registered letter – postal mail
  4. Through a representative (someone will come in and do it for you).

For example, you can file for your wife, husband, children, etc. without their presence. Powers of attorney are not required. The main thing is to have all the necessary documents.

What documents are needed

  • Original passport (meaning passport)
  • Copy of passport: Title page with first name, last name
  • Copy of passport: Valid visa
  • Copy of passport: Last entry stamp
  • Copy of passport: latest visa renewal
  • Copy of TM.6 (if available). It is a small piece of paper that is issued everywhere, mostly when crossing the border by car, for example, if you have traveled to Borderran. If you came by plane and were not given it, you do not need it.
  • Previous 90 days report (if available)
  • Address Confirmations – essentially you need a copy of the TM.30, because if you bring just the contract, they will make you do a TM.30 first(How to get a TM.30)
  • Completed Form TM.47(Download Form TM.47 file)

How to get in person

This type is suitable for DTV, since defacto checkout is every 6 months, and notification must be done in person each time.

  1. Prepare the documents from the list above (copies can be made in advance or directly at immigration)
  2. Fill out form TM.47 if you have a printed one, if not, take it at the 90 days report counter – it is issued free of charge.

That’s it.

You can then go to the status and track it. Or download the document if it is lost in the post office.

Conclusion

The 90-day report is a simple but mandatory formality. In Pattaya, the procedure takes no more than 10-15 minutes in person. To avoid penalties, mark the date of the next report as soon as you receive your receipt.
